It Lives In The Streets

Along with the graffiti of Frida Kahlo, this is one of the images I always see on my way to work; A kind of remix of the national coat of arms with the Virgin Guadalupe (Mexico’s take on the Virgin Mary), showing just how tightly national pride and religious belief are tied in together around here.
What I love about much of the graffiti I have seen here is that it seems to be a clear representation of Mexican culture and, often, of what is happening in the country at the moment. From support for and hate of different political parties to Frida Kahlo’s quotes to a religious remix of the escudo nacional, wherever you look the culture is alive and thriving in the streets.
